Welcome To Oman

Foreigners are generally made to feel very welcome in Oman, although in return you’ll be expected to abide scrupulously by Omani cultural norms. This remains a deeply traditional – and in many ways very conservative – country, and despite its sometimes superficially Westernized appearance and growing openness to tourists, old attitudes run extremely deep.

Day 2Half Day Muscat City Tour

The attraction of the city of Muscat is the Grand Mosque, which our guide will pick us up from the hotel to see after breakfast (except on Fridays and public holidays). Grand Mosque, finished in 2001, is a stunning structure with a contemporary appearance that demonstrates the continued use of old building techniques by modern artisans. Taking more and more images is a need. The main prayer room’s handcrafted carpets, chandeliers, and enormous dome ceilings are not to be missed.

Ladies, please wear long skirts or pants and bring a head scarf. Gentlemen, please wear slacks.

Visit the vibrant Muttrah Souq while driving along the Corniche, a seawall promenade.

We then go on to the 16th-century Portuguese forts of Mirani and Jalali, and the beautiful Al Alam Palace, the official palace of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, for a photo op. Get a feel for Oman’s past by checking out the Bait Al Zubair Museum.

Get a return to the hotel and spend the night there.

Day 3Dolphin Watching Tour

In-room hotel breakfast

We’ll be taking a boat out to look for dolphins and whales, so we’ll need to get from the Muscat Hotel to the Marina. A thrilling way to start the day, whale watching is possible just a few kilometers off the rocky coast of Muscat, and so is watching wild dolphins. Even if you don’t see any whales, dolphins, or other marine mammals on your vacation, you’ll still have a great time exploring the ocean and learning more about these amazing creatures.

It’s time to head back to the hotel, so circle back to the Marina. The rest of the day is at your own to take in more of the hotel or go out and discover the local area.

Day 4Muscat – Nizwa – Jabal Akhdar

Nizwa, the inner capital of the Sultanate of Oman, is the site where Islam was first introduced to the Arabian Peninsula. The Round Tower Fort in Nizwa dates back to the 17th century, and the market inside is famed for its weekly livestock sale on Fridays as well as its finely carved “Khanjars” (daggers) and ornate silver jewelry. Moving forward, we reach the checkpoint at Wadi Al Madeen. From here, you can travel 36 kilometers down a meandering road to reach Jebel Akhdar, the verdant crown gem of the Al Hajjar mountain ranges and a one-of-a-kind destination on the Arabian Peninsula. Take advantage of the mild temperature in the highlands.

It’s time to head back to the hotel, so circle back to the Marina. The rest of the day is at your own to take in more of the hotel or go out and discover the local area.

Day 5Jabal Akhdar – Muscat – Departure

In-room hotel breakfast Fruit orchards in Al Jebel Al Akhdar are famous for the terraced layouts they often take on the mountain sides, taking advantage of the natural springs and aflaj that can be found there. Villages such as Saiq and Wadi Bani Habib (also known as the “village of the old houses”) and cities like Al Ain dot the terrain. The communities gaze out over a breathtaking panorama of towering cliffs, deep gorges, and winding wadis. When in full bloom (March/April), the roses of Jabal Al Akhdar release a fragrant scent into the air. In the homes of the peasants, rose water is distilled.

Transfer to the Sultan Qaboos Airport in Muscat.
